C'TOWN STEAK
Used to have a family of 11 living next door to me in a two bedroom house. One of those 11 was Robert AKA "Baked Bean" Hunter. Robert and his brood were part of old Cabbagetown and resisted Pottery Barn Mafia's pull. Patriarch finally succumbed to hard living a few years ago and the diaspora ensued after earth-moving Pentecostal service. Imagine feeding 11 is tough row to hoe; glad I don't know what that's like on any frequent basis. The Hunters usually ate soup and cornbread for supper and sometimes they splurged and had "Cabbagetown Steak" sandwiches, which were nothing more than two slices of fried bologna nestled between toasted white bread slathered with Duke's Mayo. Beverly had never had a "C'town Steak," so I helmed electric frypan for her birthday luncheon. Oscar Meyer Bologna, Duke's, some strong mustard, and a few knobs of butter. There's your salt intake for the next six months.
